With the recent cold weather, many people with arthritis and/or degeneration have reported an increase in symptoms such as pain, stiffness, and soreness. This is due to the deep freeze outside. Arthritis thrives in the cold temperatures. That's why so many retirees move to Florida!
If you are over 50 and are experiencing an increase in these type of symptoms there are a few things you can do.
First, take a long hot shower each morning. Warming up the muscles increases circulation and loosens stiff muscles.
Wear a tight fitting cotton undershirt underneath your clothes. This will help keep your muscles warm and prevent cold drafts from chilling your skin as you go about your day.
Lastly, use a menthol based ointment on the areas in question such as Ben-Gay or Flex-All 454.
Remember, managing arthritis over time is key to avoiding the progression of this otherwise debilitating disease.
